Old-age pension
In Italy there are multiple routes to retirement. The standard old-age pension requires 67 years of age and at least 20 years of contributions. Early retirement (regardless of age) requires 42 years and 10 months of contributions for men and 41 years and 10 months for women. The application is submitted online to INPS and should be filed at least 3 months before the planned date.

Step-by-step procedure

Check requirements and simulate your amountLog in to inps.it with SPID. Go to La mia pensione futura to see your paid contributions, estimated retirement date and a pension amount simulation. Check you have at least 20 years of contributions (for the 67-year route) or sufficient contributions for early retirement.
Periods of redundancy fund, maternity, unemployment and degree buy-backs count as contributions.

Choose your retirement windowThe standard old-age pension starts on the first day of the month after turning 67 (with 20 years of contributions). Early retirement has a 3-month window from when the right is earned. Calculate carefully to avoid losing months of benefit.
Quota 103 (age 62 + 41 years of contributions) is an experimental measure renewed annually: check if it is still active.

Submit the application online to INPSLog in to inps.it with SPID or CIE. Go to Benefits and services > Old-age pension (or Early retirement) and complete the form. State the desired start date and your IBAN. You can delegate a patronage office (CAF, INCA, ACLI) for free.
Submit the application at least 3 months before the start date to avoid delays in the first payment.

Notify your employer and wait for processingNotify your employer of the retirement date with the notice period required by your collective agreement. INPS processes the application in 60-90 days. The first payment may include arrears from the start month.
