Driving licence renewal
The B driving licence expires every 10 years until age 50, then every 5 years. Renewal requires a medical exam from an authorised doctor.

Step-by-step procedure

Check the expiry date
The date is on the back of the licence. You can renew it up to 1 year in advance.

Book the medical exam
Visit an authorised doctor (Motor Vehicle Authority, some local health units, private doctors). The exam takes ~15 min: eye test and blood pressure.
Exam cost: from €50 to €130.

Pay the postal slip
Postal payment slip of €10.20 payable to "Motorizzazione" and €16.00 stamp duty from a tobacconist.
4
Receive the provisional certificate
The doctor issues a certificate valid as a provisional licence for 60 days. The new licence arrives by post within 30–45 working days.
Keep the certificate.
