Is my health data secure?

Yes. The FSE is protected by GDPR and the Privacy Code. Only the owner (the patient) and authorised healthcare professionals can access it. You can see in the log who has consulted your record.

Can my GP see all my reports?

Your GP can access your FSE during the consultation, but only the documents you have authorised. You can manage access permissions by document category in the record settings.

Can I download my reports from the FSE?

Yes. All documents in the FSE can be downloaded as PDFs. You can share them with other healthcare professionals or keep them for personal use.

Electronic Health Record (FSE)

The Electronic Health Record (FSE) is your digital health archive. It contains medical reports, diagnoses, prescriptions, hospitalisations, vaccinations and other health documents. Since 2022 it is active throughout Italy via the dedicated portal and the IO app. Activation is free and done with SPID or CIE.

Step-by-step procedure

Activate the Electronic Health Record

Go to fascicolosanitario.gov.it or access via the IO app (Services section). Log in with SPID or CIE and accept the terms of service. The FSE may already be active if your region had created it previously: in that case you will already find your documents.

You can also activate it at your GP or local health authority.

View reports and documents

In the FSE you find: lab test results, CT scans, ultrasounds, X-rays; drug and specialist prescriptions (digital prescriptions); hospital discharge letters; vaccinations; ticket exemptions. Documents are uploaded automatically by the healthcare facilities that produce them.

Not all documents are available immediately: it depends on the regional healthcare facilities' integration.

Manage your privacy preferences

You can choose which categories of documents to make visible to your doctor (e.g. exclude psychiatric or HIV data). You can also block the FSE from being fed new data: in that case new documents are not inserted automatically. Adjust preferences in the Privacy section of the portal.
